Why We Care

WHY WE CARE?

Have you often wondered why "WE" as parents care so much about the amount of time our kids are spending on social media and electronics and how much they are exposed to it on a daily basis? I think about this more than I want to. Being a mother to 5 awesome kids, I am constantly battling the type of social media my kids are viewing and alway questioning how much time is appropriate for them to spend on this kind of stuff. Some popular apps and websites for this are Instagram, TikTok, SnapChat, YouTube Kids, Twitter, WhatsApp, Pinterest, Facebook, Whisper, and just plain old texting. This is just to name a few. What Apps are good? What Apps are bad? How much time is spent on these apps in "real" life? Is there a certain amount of time that is acceptable?

These are a few questions that I would like to focus on. This blog will be about the positive and negative things that come from social media with our kids and what we can do as parents to embrace technology. Hopefully, we can see first hand how social media affects children today. Why do we care? Because we LOVE our kids!

  1. This is so fun! I think that this is something that every parent does and has questioned. Should I let my kids have technology? When is it right? Etc. I think your take on this will be really interesting and I love that you let us know (your readers) what technology your kids have access to. I think getting to follow them as they journey with social media and technology will help us know what apps are appropriate, and maybe help some people make decisions on what they should allow their children to view or use when it comes to the technological world.
Also, you are awesome and your family is adorable! I'm so glad you've made this blog!
Keep posting and keep letting us know what's good and what you're up to!

  2. I love these pictures of your kids. How cute are they? It's nice to know I'm not the only person in our class on the other end of the path when it comes to family.

I love that you are working towards giving reviews about apps and media. It is a concern. I have a child that I believe is already struggling with depression from electronic use and so I fully agree with your goal to help us know what our kids are watching!

  3. I think this will be very interesting to learn about the apps and see if it is okay for children to be using. It will also be interesting to see how each of your kids use technology because it is such a variety of their age groups and what they have access to so I think it will be very cool to learn more about. I can't wait to hear about the good and the bad with these apps and see how each kid would use the apps. I can't wait to hear more about this and see what I can learn from it as well.

What Do You Think Social Media Means?

Hi Guys! Social media is a phrase that is used all the time, but do we really understand what we are saying when we say it? What about our kids? Do they understand what the phrase means? I feel it is important for us parents to understand the definition of social media and understand what your child thinks it means. Both parents and children might have a completely different idea of what social media means. How can we help our children know the effects of social media if we aren’t talking about the same thing? Watch this movie to see what I mean……. How Can We Help?

How Can We Help? So far, we have talked about the issues our kids face with social media.  Some have been positive and some have been negative.  I think it's time we talk about what we can do to help our kids by handling the different platforms of social media.  This might get a little difficult to do with all age groups, but let's talk about some general things we can do as parents to help our children.  According to different resources that I studied these are some recommendations that could help you as you guide your children.       Educate yourself about social media   As a parent, it’s important to familiarize yourself with what sites are out there and which are appropriate for your child.
